Material properties of fluoroethylene propylene (FEP)
FEP films combine excellent mechanical, thermal, dielectric, chemical and mechanical properties and optical properties. The films are thermoformable, e.g. by vacuum deep drawing, as well as weldable in the heat-sealing process. In addition, one- or pre-etched films are available on both sides, which are suitable for gluing or adhesive laminations are suitable.
FEP is produced by copolymerisation of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene, its carbon skeleton is completely surrounded by fluorine atoms, as with PTFE. FEP is a thermoplastic. FEP can be thermally formed, is easily welded, offers a very wide temperature range (continuously from -190 to +205 °C) and is flame-resistant.
