O-Rings in NBR

Nitrile rubber (NBR) is the general name for the acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer. The acrylonitrile content (ACN content) varies from 18 to 50% and has a decisive influence on the elastomer properties. Seals with a high ACN content show significantly better oil and fuel resistance, while at the same time cold flexibility, elasticity and compression set deteriorate. For this reason, a medium acrylonitrile content is chosen in the majority of gasket applications.

Advantages of NBR

Seals made of NBR have good mechanical properties and better abrasion resistance compared to other elastomers. They also have good resistance to mineral oils and greases as well as water and glycols. The general application temperature is between -30 and 100°C.

Fields of application of NBR

Due to their good mechanical properties, O-rings made of NBR are mainly used in hydraulics, pneumatics and general mechanical industries.

With HITEC® NBR 70.10-02, Angst+Pfister has a particularly high-quality and high-performance standard material with a large number of approvals, such as ACS, ADI free, CLP, DVGW EN 549, DVGW W270, EG 1935/2004, FDA, GB 4806.11-2016, NSF 61 and ÖNORM B 5014-1. For more details on the approvals, please see our technical data sheet.

For applications without approvals we recommend the NBR materials from our NORMATEC series in the hardnesses 60, 70 and 90 Shore A with the materials NBR 60.00-02, NBR 70.00-01 or NBR 90.00-02.

HITEC® NBR and other NBR elastomers in various degrees of hardness available from stock

O-rings made of HITEC® NBR 70.10-02 are permanently available from stock in a wide range of dimensions. Angst+Pfister of course has other NBR elastomers available, either in other degrees of hardness or specifically designed for special applications.
